GENERAL INFORMATION "TINY TOTS"
TINY TOTS: AKA "miniature dogs" or...
CHINESE IMPERIAL DOGS, MEDITERRANEAN IMPERIAL BICHONS & CHINESE MEDITERRANEAN IMPERIAL SHIH CHON,
TINY TOTS ARE PUPPIES THAT MEASURE 9-9 1/2 INCHES OR LESS FROM THE FLOOR TO THE TOP OF THE SHOULDER (USING A RULER IS BEST). 9 - 11 POUNDS TYPICALLY IS A GENERAL RULE OF THUMB FOR A TINY TOT. SINCE A DOG'S WEIGHT CAN BE VARIED DUE TO DIET, AMOUNT OF EXERCISE, ETC. WEIGHT IS NOT NECESSARILY A FACTOR IN DETERMINING A TINY TOT. A SHIH TZU HAS A HEAVIER BONE STRUCTURE, SO A SHIH TZU OR SHIH TZU BUILT TINY TOT WILL HAVE A HEAVIER WEIGHT THAN HIS COUNTERPART THE BICHON OR BICHON BUILT TINY TOT.
We know puppies will be small based on the genetics of the parents/grandparents/great-grandparents. For obvious reasons, a "tiny tot" would not fit in well with a family with toddlers, as they could get broken. We normally keep Tiny Tots until they are at least 12 weeks of age.

Want a "pocket puppy"? Two things to keep in mind,
#1: "The smaller the dog, the larger the price tag" Quoted from Channel 2 news
#2: The smaller the dog, the more intense the care for the dog.
A Tiny Tot is not a "runt". A runt is usually a puppy that is born smaller than his siblings and from the first is noticeable in size.
A Tiny Tot, on the other hand, is born the same size as his siblings, then his growth will slow and he will remain smaller than his siblings. A Tiny Tot should be genetically smaller due to the small genetics in his background. ie: his parents and/or grandparents are small.

A Tiny Tot, like any miniature dog, will need more than the average attention as when they are this small, we give them more attention. Often, Sherry will carry them around in her pocket as she does her chores. And we keep an extra eye on them to make sure their siblings don't decide to beat up on them. Many times, being small will make them even more pushy as they learn to get what they want, they have to be assertive. So don't expect that the small size will mean a small personality.
A Tiny Tot comes from a small mom, usually meaning the litter size itself was small. This fact is part of the reason that a Tiny Tot is significantly more expensive then his counterpart (usually $250 - $500 higher).
As a Tiny Tot is not a runt, we will not always know immediately upon birth that we have a Tiny Tot in our midst, therefore, you might notice a puppy listed on the general breed list being moved to the Tiny Tot page and his/her adoption fee going up. If you are on a wait list for a Tiny Tot, you will be notified as soon as we are aware we have one.
On occasion a puppy we were certain would be a Tiny Tot, will surprise us and take a growth spurt and become larger than we would have thought. If this happens, (confirmation needed) we will refund $50 per 1/2 inch or 1/2 pound up to $250 for over 9.5". ie: A Tiny Tot Shih Chon sold at $1100 at 1 year of age is 11" - we would refund aprox. $150.
