ARE YOU READY FOR THE COLD WEATHER?

When you walk out the door for work, school or errands, are you grabbing a coat, boots and mittens?   If so, when you put your pet out to do his "duty" do you do the same?   If you have children, I am sure you worry if they will catch cold.  Make sure you give the same consideration to your 4-legged child, he is just as much at risk as the 2-legged ones. Most of your pet supply stores carry all sorts of sweaters, as well as booties you can dress your pet up in - remember, it's not just for a cute look, it's for their health!

VETERINARIAN IDENTIFICATION

A client brought a litter of  puppies to my veterinary clinic for inoculations and worming. As the look-alike pups squirmed over and under one another in their box, I realized it would be difficult to tell the treated ones from the rest. I turned on the water faucet, wet my fingers, and moistened each dog's head when I had finished.

After the fourth puppy, I noticed my hitherto talkative client had grown silent. As I sprinkled the last pup's head, the woman leaned forward and whispered, "I didn't know they had to be baptized."

SHE'S BACK!

Casey (on the left) is back working for us and back naming all the puppies! If you want idea's for puppy names, or need to know if your puppy has/had a name, she's the one to talk to.    Welcome home Casey - we missed you.

I REALLY HATE BEING MISUNDERSTOOD

"I pulled into a crowded parking lot and rolled down the car windows to make sure my dog had fresh air. She was stretched out on the back seat, and I wanted to impress upon her that she must remain there. I walked to the curb backward, pointing my finger at the car and saying emphatically, Now you stay. Do you hear me? Stay! Stay!"

The driver of a nearby car, perhaps noting that I am a blonde, gave me a strange look and said, "Why don't you just put it in park?"

Let's talk about Hypoglycemia...

Is your puppy eating and drinking enough?  Do not believe the rumor that a dog will eat when he is hungry.  A puppy who does not eat will die!  It is important that you make sure your new puppy is eating and drinking properly.  A puppy will gain weight rapidly during his first months of life.   To do so properly, you need to maintain proper diet for him.  The smaller the puppy, the more frequent his need to eat.  For example, our "teenies" need small amounts of food a minimum of 5-6 times a day.  This is the main reason we keep them until they are older.  A healthy 10 week old puppy needs to eat 3 meals a day.     Additionally, they need calcium, so we often add cottage cheese to their daily diet.   A puppy that is going hypoglycemic will be lethargic and his gums will be gray to white rather than pink and rosy.   If you have a puppy going hypoglycemic on you, immediately administer some form of sugar to him - Karo syrup, maple syrup or sugar water.   You can go as much as 1/2 tsp - 1 tsp(.05 - 1.0 cc) or sugar every 10-15 minutes until he turns around.  What do you do if your puppy doesn't want to eat?  You do whatever it takes to make him eat.   Give him something yummy, straight canned, cottage cheese, hamburger and rice, vanilla yogurt or even vanilla ice cream!  Stand on your head if this is what it takes!  And if he misses more than a day's worth of meals, even refusing the yummies?  Take him to the vet - something is up and it needs immediate attention!    When in doubt, give us a call - remember, we are the grandparents, and are concerned about your puppies health and welfare.

LOOKING FOR A PUPPY FOR CHRISTMAS?  Did you stop to think about how dangerous this time of year is for a puppy?   The tree, tinsel, excitement, and unopened packages can be a big danger for your new family member.  It will make housebreaking difficult as well, as it is near impossible to keep a schedule during hectic holiday season.    It would be better to wait until after the holidays if you are unable to adopt prior to the holidays.

A DOG NAMED LUCKY

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog, Lucky. Lucky was a real character.
Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit, they would
warn their friends not to leave their luggage open because Lucky would
help himself to whatever struck his fancy.

Inevitably someone would forget and something would come up missing. Mary
or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure
would be, amid all of Lucky's favorite toys. Lucky always stashed his
finds in his toy box, and he was very particular that his toys stay in the
box.

It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her
she was going to die of this disease...she was just sure it was fatal. She
scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders.

The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A
thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the
three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through. If I
die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I
didn't want to leave him.

The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death. The double
mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated, and Mary
was hospitalized for over two weeks.

Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully but the dog just drooped,
whining and miserable.

Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived
home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her
bedroom.

Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap.

Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It
made Mary sad, but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed. When Mary woke,
for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She couldn't move her
head, and her body felt heavy and hot. Panic soon gave way to laughter
though when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally
blanketed, in every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the
sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement and back bringing
his beloved mistress his favorite things in life. He had covered her with
his love.

Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again,
walking further and further together every night.

It's been 12 years now, and Mary is still cancer-free.

Lucky? He still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box, but Mary
remains his greatest treasure.

Live everyday to the fullest...because every day is a blessing from God!

  • TINY TOTS:   PHOTO GALLERY

    Want a "pocket puppy"?   Two things to keep in mind,

    #1:  "The smaller the dog, the larger the price tag" Quoted from Channel 2 news

    #2:  The smaller the dog, the more intense the care for the dog.

    A Tiny Tot  is not a "runt".   A runt is usually a puppy that is born smaller than his siblings and from the first is noticeable in size.

    A Tiny Tot, on the other hand, is born the same size as his siblings, then his growth will slow and he will  remain smaller than his siblings.  A Tiny Tot should be genetically smaller due to the small genetics in his background.  ie:  his parents and/or grandparents are small.

    SHIH CHON, SHIHON, BICH-TZU , ZUCHON OR TEDDY BEAR DOG

    SO MANY NAMES FOR SUCH A CUTE LITTLE DOG.

    We are getting calls, and placing our Shih Chon puppies all over the U.S., and the one thing we are finding is that there are various names for the Bichon Shih Tzu mix breed.   We originally called our puppies Bich-Tzu (Bee-Sha-Zoo) because they came from a Bichon Mom and Shih Tzu Dad.   But that was a very hard name to pronounce, so we switched to Shih Chon (Shee-Shawn).   We spell it as two words, like you do the Shih Tzu, as we feel it the only proper way to do so.   One thing is for sure, no matter how you spell it, or pronounce it, or call it, they are just the darling of the "designer dog" world!

    WELCOME TO THE FAMILY OUR NEWEST DADDY DOGS:

      Meet our newest family member - "Dickens".   He is a two year old male Shih Tzu from incredible lineage!  He will be able to carry on our tradition of top-notch Shih Tzu, with champion lines.    We have also added Hugh Heffner, from outstanding champion lines, with oodles of color, and knock-down dead gorgeous!

    and last, but definitely not least:  is Montae,  from Canadian champion lines, who as you can see, is just a cute little marshmallow, and as sweet as one.

    Advice From a Dog

    Perspective is Everything...

    One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son
    on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.  On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"  "It was great, Dad."    "Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.
    "Oh yeah," said the son.  "So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.

    The son answered:

    "I saw that we have one dog and they had four.

    We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.

    We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.

    Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.

    We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.

    We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.

    We buy our food, but they grow theirs.

    We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."   The boy's father was   speechless.
    Then his son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are."

    Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder
    what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have,  instead of worrying about what we don't have.    Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends

    "Pam,
    I just have to know.... can you tell which one was the last girl born?   Someone must have known the Lampshire's needed another baby girl, and said,.....after the 4th girl,  how about a boy and.....oh yes, throw in another girl for the Lampshire's and finish with a little boy.   You think?????  : )"
  • CHINESE IMPERIAL DOG

    IMPERIAL SHIH TZU, or MINIATURE SHIH TZU...

    What's in a name?  The debate is on in the purebred world of Shih Tzu.  Is a smaller version of the Shih Tzu legitimate, and does it deserve its own name and number in the registry?

    We don't want to get involved in the debate, but we do feel that a dog bred that is healthy, social and sweet, is deserving of a loving home.  These 3 "kids" come from Lil' Millinium Baby and Ceasar, both parents are from champion lineage, and they just happened to have a litter of tiny puppies - not surprising as Mom is only 7 pounds!  Boys have perfect show markings, and if not for size, would be show quality.  So, what's in a name?   Beats me.  We just love them!

    We will tell you that the "teeny" dogs - such as the teacup poodle - are more high maintenance, from birth, and need to stay with their mom and breeder for a longer period of time.   They will be high maintenance once adopted, as they have been spoiled from birth, with more intense - hands on care.  Therefore, these miniature version of the Shih Tzu, which some are now calling "Chinese Imperial Dogs" will be more expensive to adopt, and will require a more attentive owner.

    Due to the above and the fact that a small mom, has a smaller litter of puppies, means that the adoption fee of a miniature dog, will be much higher, as much as 2 - 3 times higher - than of its standard size counterpart.   This is not because the breeder is greedy, it's because the cost factor of producing these dogs is much, much higher.

    THE NAME GAME:

    hOW ABOUT A "CHINESE Mediterranean IMPERIAL SHIH CHON"

    Now we have combined two names that are not found in any registry, oh dear!

    TO GOD - FROM THE DOG:

    Dear God: Why do humans smell the flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell one another?

    Dear God: When we get to heaven, can we sit on your couch? Or is it still the same old story?

    Dear God: Why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt, the stingray, and . . . .the rabbit, but not ONE named for a dog? How often do you see a cougar riding around? We do love a nice ride! Would it be so hard to rename the "Chrysler Eagle" the " ChryslerBeagle"?

    · Dear God: If a dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad dog?

    · Dear God: We dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles, horns, clickers, beepers, scent ID's, electromagnetic energy fields, and Frisbee flight paths. What do humans understand?

    · Dear God: More meatballs, less spaghetti, please.

    · Dear God: Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have to apologize?

    What a busy summer this was.

    We are  proud to announce that we have added two part-time employees to our ranks.

    Nikki Myers and her daughter, Cheyenne, came to us early on as community service volunteers, and were so welcome we asked them to remain as salaried staff.  Nikki is busy with school and raising a daughter, so she primarily works the weekend shifts which gives me Sunday's off on a regular basis!  Thank You Nikki!  Cheyenne, is great with the dogs, and is perfect for getting puppies use to children.   She is actually our weekend pooper-scooper as well.

    We also are thrilled to have Heather Burkhart and her two Chihuahua "kids" Digger and Chiclett, who are actually smaller than most of the puppies running around.   Heather moved here from Arizona with her husband, and had worked in a dog day-care facility.  She is just awesome with all the dog kids around here. Heather's favorite word, is "Groovy" which puts a smile on everyone's face.  Which, she says, is why she uses the word.

    HOLIDAY WARNINGS!

    Casual Canine 2-Piece Pet Costume Little Devil Halloween is a time of year when there are prowlers on the look out for pets for sacrifice, and an evening when your door will be continually open.  Please keep you pet locked up safely in a bedroom, laundry or kennel. It is for his own protection!

    Casual Canine Duck Costume Thanksgiving turkey can be a death trap for a pet.  Keep the carcass out of reach.  Our pets love to rummage in the trash, and Blanca has been so bold as to climb up on our kitchen counter when our back is turned,  so we take the turkey up to the trash lock-up immediately upon finishing dinner.

    Zanies Reindeer Antlers Christmas with all it's glitter and glitz is as exciting to a puppy as it is to children.  Tinsel is deadly as can be that hidden box of candy under wrap.  And a very excited pup may even crash a tree and hurt himself.   So, please use baby gates to block off your pet from the Christmas tree and presents...

    Dear Dog and Cat,

    When I say move, it means to go someplace else, not switch positions with each other so there are still two of you in the way.

    The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

    The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help, because I fall faster than you can run.

    I cannot buy anything bigger than a king size bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs and cats sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing but sarcasm.

    My compact discs are not miniature Frisbees.

    For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, try to turn the knob, or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. When I exit this room, I will come out the same door I entered. In addition, I have been using bathrooms for years. Canine attendance has never been necessary.

    The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog's butt. I cannot stress this enough. It would be such a simple change for you.

    In return for your following these simple rules, I have posted the following message on our front door:

    Rules for Non-Pet Owners Who Visit and Like to Complain About Our Pets:

    1. They live here. You don't.

    2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.

    3. I like my pet a lot better than I like most people.

    4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.

    5. Dogs and cats are better than kids. They eat less, don't ask for money all the time, are easier to train, usually come when called, never drive your car, don't hang out with drug-using friends, don't smoke or drink, don't worry about buying the latest fashions, don't wear your clothes, don't need a gazillion dollars for college, and if they get pregnant, you can sell the results.

    The 2004 Picnic was held on June 19, 2004, and despite adverse weather conditions, we had a great turn-out.   We had spent a great deal of time ebay shopping in the dog-costume department and had over 24 awesome outfits for our dog-fashion show.  Everything from a bikini, to a wedding outfit.  And fortunately, there were several rain-gear outfits as well.     I think the dogs looked great, and know the owners had fun as well.   We will be making this part of our annual event, so consider letting your pet be a model next year.   The money raised goes to The Bichon Frise Rescue Ranch, inc. for use for the rescue work done on behalf of Bichons and Pomeranians.  The picnic, was co-sponsored by the Denver Metro Pom Club.    Thank you all who were in attendance!   http://www.bichonfriserescueranch.org/2004_pomachon.htm

       THIS WEEKS GUESTS

    Ever consider having a professional photo of your pet?  We think everyone should have a professional photo at least once in a lifetime and have invited Patty's Pet Photography to do the honors.   Our first official photo shoot was October 15, and almost all dogs in attendance opted for the $15 sitting fee: which includes two: 4 x 5 prints.  These prints can in turn be turned into Holiday cards for $25/25 cards, or made into enlarged photos.  We are ordering a large 11 x 15 for the office, as the last photo we have of our gang is 5 years old, and now we have a new gang.   We are hopeful to make this an on-going event, so let us know if you would like your pets photo taken.

    Advice From a Dog

    If a dog was the teacher you would learn stuff like:

    When loved ones come home,

    *Always run to greet them.

    *Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

    *Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

    *When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.

    *Let others know when they've invaded your territory.

    *Take naps.

    *Stretch before rising.

    *Run, romp, and play daily.

    *Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

    *Avoid biting , when a simple growl will do.

    *On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

    *On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

    *When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

    *No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout, run right back
    and make friends.

    *Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

    *Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. BUT, Stop when you have had enough.

    *Be Loyal.

    *Never pretend to be something you're not.

    *If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it. !!!

    *When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle
    them gently.

      DOG HAIR: POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS!!!

    In a press release today, the National Institute of Health has announced the discovery of a potentially dangerous substance in the hair of dogs. This substance, called "amo-bacter canis" has been linked with the following symptoms in female humans:

    Reluctance to cook

    Reluctance to perform housework

    Reluctance to wear anything but jeans or sweats

    Reluctance to work except in support of a dog

    Physical craving for contact with dogs (may be an addiction)

    Beware: If you come in contact with a female human affected by this substance, be prepared to talk about dogs for hours on end.

    WHAT'S UP PUP...

    A FUZZPUP NEWSLETTER

    1979 Carlson Rd., Parker, CO  80138  (720) 851-1671

        February 2004

                                                                    Make time for fun!

    Playtime provides exercise for your puppy and is a great way for you to bond with him.  Interactive play with your pet is crucial to his well being.  Dragging a toy around the floor or throwing something to chase gives him a fun way to exercise, and it also strengthens that bond, since you're spending time together instead of just co-existing.  Playtime is important to puppiess because it gives them a chance to interact in a positive manner with their owners.  When playtime is done consistently, it also helps give the pet structure.

    Zanies Dopey Dog Rope Buddies 11 Inch  TOYS!

    Behavior experts speak of two basic toy categories:

    1) Interactive toys you play with together, For small dogs, good interactive toys are small Frisbees, tennis balls and rope toys you can play fetch with.

    2) Pet-driven toys that are good to leave your dog with while you are gone.  Pet-driven toys are  important if your dog is left alone part of the day.  Behavior problems can be prevented by avoiding boredom, as they can self-entertain while you are away.  Food-treat toys are great choices for self-entertainment.  "Kong" type products you fill with treats will keep your pup entertained for hours.  And toys such as a "Busy Box:" dispense treats in intervals as your pet pushes the box across the floor.

    3)  Lastly, don't forget toys that your dog can cuddle up to while sleeping, carry around or shake.  Shih-Tzu puppies seem to love any toy for this catagory, but Bichon puppies seem to be partial to white fleece toys.  Whichever way you go, make sure they have a squeaker in them.

    Don't forget to have an assortment and rotate toys on a regular basis.

    TRAINING!

    Puppies, like children, need to be trained to positive behavior.  It does not come naturally.  Basic training classes, such as that offered through PetsMart, are definitely worth the investment of a few dollars and a few hours of your time.  We prefer such classes that have you and your family work with the puppy, rather than those that you send off your pet for someone else to work with.

    Consistency is the key word in all training.  If you are consistent, your pet will learn quickly and easily.  If you are wishy-washy and are not consistent, you will have a training nightmare as your pet will not know what is expected of him.

    Treats are a great way to reward you pet for good behavior, and most pets learn quickly with the reward system based on treats.  We recommend puppy biscuits, such as  Nutro puts out, as well as the Billjack liver snacks that seem to be just the right size for a small puppy.

    DON'T FORGET, NAP-TIME...

    Puppies, like babies, need time out to rest.   Don't forget this necessary part of their day.   Some puppies automatically crash when they are tired.  Others need someone who will structure their life with a scheduled nap-time.   The smaller the puppy, the more frequent time-outs he needs, and just like humans, as he gets older, he will find these nap-times less necessary in his life, until such time as those senior years creep up.

    A three year old boy went with his dad to see a new litter of puppies.  On returning home, he breathlessly informed his mother "There were two boy puppies and two girl puppies."

    "How did you know that?" his mother asked.

    "Daddy picked them up and looked underneath.  I think it's printed on the bottom!"

    SHOW VS PET

    wITH WESTMINSTER BEHIND US, AND OUR LOCAL DOG SHOW AHEAD OF US, WE WANT TO TAKE A SHORT MOMENT TO REFLECT ON OUR OPINION REGARDING SHOW VS PET QUALITY PUPPIES.  PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS OUR HUMBLE OPINION.

    J.R. WON AT WESTMINSTER A FEW YEARS BACK BRINGING FULL ATTENTION TO OUR BELOVED BICHON FRISE.  HE THEN CAME OUT OF RETIREMENT AND WON AT THE EUKANUBA SHOW AS WELL..

    WHAT MOST PEOPLE DO NOT REALIZE, OR CONSIDER, IS THAT J.R., AND OTHER SHOW PETS ARE CONSIDERED THE CREAM OF THE CROP, AND COME FROM YEARS OF INTENSE RESEARCH AND BREEDING.   ALONG WITH THIS ALSO COMES  HUGE amounts of money and  TIME SPENT IN KEEPING THESE DOGS IN FULL COAT AND LOOKING THEIR BEST.   A BICHON FRISE AND A SHIH-TZU IN FULL COAT REQUIRES DAILY (NOT WEEKLY) COMBING AND TRIMMING.  THEY ARE NOT THE TYPE PET ONE LETS LOOSE IN THE BACK YARD TO DIG IN THE GARDEN OR A REGULAR BASIS.   THESE DOGS ARE ALSO MEASURED & WEIGHED TO MEET STRICT STANDARDS BEFORE THEY CAN  VENTURE INTO A SHOW RING, AND ARE JUDGED BY LOOKS AND PERSONALITY IN THE RING.

    A PET QUALITY PUPPY WILL FALL SHORT OF BREED STANDARD.  HOW MUCH THEY FALL SHORT WILL DEPEND ON THE QUALITY OF THE BREEDER YOU ARE WORKING WITH.   SOME MAY BE JUST A TINGE TOO:  TALL, SHORT, or LONG. OTHER MAY VARY MORE DRASTICLY.  THEY  MAY HAVE BITES THAT ARE OFF OR ARE  MISSING PIGMENT.  EVEN SHOW BREEDERS HAVE PET-QUALITY PUPPIES AS THEY CANNOT PRODUCE ENTIRE LITERS OF SHOW QUALITY PUPPIES, AND MAY NEVER PRODUCE A SHOW QUALITY PUPPY.   IN REALITY, A PUPPY considered show quality by an owner/breeder  MAY FAIL TO WIN IN THE RING FOR FAULTS A JUDGE MAY FIND UNACCEPTABLE TO WHAT HE/SHE FEELS IS BREED PERFECTION.

    lastly, please note that the designation "show quality" does not, in any way, guarantee you a more healthy puppy than that considered "pet quality".   in either you need to make sure  you have healthy genetics to insure a healthy puppy.   the same statement would apply to how a pet is or is not registered.

    between the 3 aspects of our business; breeding, boarding and rescue, we see an enormous amount of pets,  and we love them all..   each is special in his own way, and our owners feel the same.   i know for a fact,  each of our owners feels they have the "perfect" dog, whether he is in or out of the ring.

    BOTTOM LINE, CONSIDER WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF YOUR ADOPTION OF A DOG.  IS IT TO BE A PET?  TO BE USED FOR BREEDING?  TO BE IN THE SHOW RING?   THEN DO YOUR HOMEWORK.  CALL  VET REFERENCES, OWNER REFERENCES, AND CHECK OUT THE BREEDER YOU ARE DEALING WITH.   MAKE SURE THEY ARE OFFERING WHAT IT IS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IN A DOG.   when you know what you want, you can go forward to find the perfect puppy for your very own.

     HOLIDAY WARNING!

    ~~~~~~~~
      Valentines day is noted for that big box of chocolate.  Many a pet has found the smell irresistible and gotten into that box and eaten it down to the last morsel.  Please remember, chocolate is poison to dogs!
    Easter with its basket of goodies is tempting for kids and pets alike.  Besides the goodies, puppies will love to chew on the basket itself, which can prove just as dangerous as the treats there-in.
      BOY Or GIRL?
    Most breeders agree that in general, the boys puppies a more cuddly and sweet than girls.  Girls, tend to be a little bit more independent.  And also have a tendency to be a little bit more "mouthy".   Hmmmm....this sounds like my husbands complaint about me.  But you can't go wrong either way as the breeds themselves are companion pets, so will do the job well.   As for the nasty rumor that you cannot housebreak a boy, in our humble opinion, this is a bad rap.  Boys, when neutered are just as respectable a pet as a girl.  And the advantage of a boy is he can be neutered as soon as his "jewels" have dropped. So a pup as young as 12-14 weeks can be neutered, and then he may never learn to lift his leg.   Either sex will "mark territory" if they are not neutered.
      On a final note, Sherry, Kenny and I have made a tough business decision.  We have  retired from the Pomeranian market, which Sherry has been active in for over 17 years.   We want to concentrate on our Shih-Tzu and Bichons, and feel having only the two breeds will work best for us.
    Casual Canine 2-Piece Pet Costume Little Devil Halloween is a time of year when there are prowlers on the look out for pets for sacrifice, and an evening when your door will be continually open.  Please keep you pet locked up safely in a bedroom, laundry or kennel. It is for his own protection!
    Casual Canine Duck Costume Thanksgiving turkey can be a death trap for a pet.  Keep the carcass out of reach.  Our pets love to rummage in the trash, and Blanca has been so bold as to climb up on our kitchen counter when our back is turned,  so we take the turkey up to the trash lock-up immediately upon finishing dinner.
    Zanies Reindeer Antlers Christmas with all it's glitter and glitz is as exciting to a puppy as it is to children.  Tinsel is deadly as can be that hidden box of candy under wrap.  And a very excited pup may even crash a tree and hurt himself.   So, please use baby gates to block off your pet from the Christmas tree and presents...
    Bandit, living happily ever after!
    Three Little Pigs
    Three Little Pigs went out to dinner one night. The waiter comes and takes their drink order.
    "I would like a Sprite," said the first little piggy.  "I would like a Coke," said the second little piggy. "I want water, lots and lots of water," said the third little piggy.
    The drinks are brought out and the waiter takes their orders for dinner.
    "I want a nice big steak," said the first piggy.  "I would like the salad plate," said the second piggy. "I want water, lots and lots of water," said the third little piggy.
    The meals were brought out and a while later the waiter approached the table and asked if the piggies would like any dessert.
    "I want a banana split," said the first piggy.  "I want a root beer float," said the second piggy.  "I want water, lots and lots of water," exclaimed the third little piggy.
    "Pardon me for asking," said the waiter! to the third little piggy, "but why have you only ordered water all evening?"
                    You're gonna LOVE me for this....
    The third piggy says -"Well, somebody has to go 'Wee, wee, wee, all the way home!"
    PROGRESSIVE DOG RULES OR, "THE DOG RULES"
    1:  Dogs are never permitted in the house.  The dog stays outside in a specially built wooden compartment named, for a very good reason, "the dog house".
    2:  Okay, the dog can enter the house, but only for short visits or is his own house is under renovation.
    3:  Okay, the dog can stay in the house on a permanent basis, provided his dog house can be sold in a yard sale to a rookie dog owner.
    4:  Inside the house, the dog is not allowed to rn free and is confined to a comfortable but secure metal cage.
    5: Okay, the cage becomes part of a two-for-one deal along with the dog house in the yard sale, and the dog can go wherever the hell he pleases.
    6:  The dog is never allowed on the furniture.
    7:  Okay, the dog can get on the old furniture but not the new furniture.
    8:  Okay, the dog can get up on the new furniture until it looks like the old furniture, then we'll sell the whole damn works and buy new furniture...upon which the dog will most definitely not be allowed.
    9:  The dog never sleeps on the bed.  Period!
    10:  Okay, the dog can sleep at the foot of the bed.
    11:  Okay, the dog can sleep along side you, but he's not allowed under the covers.
    12:  Okay, the dog can sleep under the covers but not with his head on the pillow.
    13:  Okay, the dog can sleep along side you, umder the covers with his head on the pillow, but if he snores, he's got to leave the room.
    14:  Okay, the dog can sleep and snore and have nightmares in bed, but he's not to come in and sleep on the couch in the TV room, where I'm now sleeping.  That's just not fair!
    15:  The dog never gets listed on the census questionaire as "primary resident," even if it's true.
    Take Hold of Every Moment
    A friend of mine opened his wife's underwear drawer and picked up a silk
    paper wrapped package:  "This, - he said - isn't any ordinary package."
    He unwrapped the box and stared at both the silk paper and the box.
    "She got this the first time we went to New York, 8 or 9 years ago. She
    has never put it on. Was saving it for a special occasion.
    Well, I guess this is it. He got near the bed and placed the gift box next
    to the other clothings he was taking to the funeral house, his wife had
    just died. He turned to me and said:  "Never save something for a special occasion. Every day in your life is a  special occasion".
                     I still think those words changed my life.
    Now I read more and clean less.
    I sit on the porch without worrying about anything.
    I spend more time with my family, and less at work.
    I understood that life should be a source of experience to be lived up to,
    not survived through. I no longer keep anything. I use crystal glasses
    every day... I'll wear new clothes to go to the supermarket, if i feel
    like it.
    I don't save my special perfume for special occasions, I use it whenever I
    want to. The words "Someday..." and "One Day..." are fading away from my
    dictionary. If it's worth seeing, listening or doing, I want to see,
    listen or do it now. I don't know what my friend's wife would have done if
    she knew she wouldn't be there the next morning, this nobody can tell. I
    think she might have called her relatives and closest friends.
    She might call old friends to make peace over past quarrels. I'd like to
    think she would go out for Chinese, her favorite food. It's these small
    things that I would regret not doing, if I knew my time had come.
    I would regret it, because I would no longer see the friends I would meet,
                     letters... letters that i wanted to write"  One of these days".
    I would regret and feel sad, because I didn't say to my brothers and children,
                        not times enough at least, how much I love them.
        Now, I try not to delay, postpone or keep anything that could bring
                          laughter and joy into our lives.
    And, on each morning, I say to myself that this could be a special day.
    Each day, each hour, each minute, is special.
    If you got this, it's because someone cares for you and because, probably,
    there's someone you care about.
         If you're too busy to send this out to other people and you say to
       yourself that you will send it "One of these days", remember that "One
                    day" is far away..... or might never come...
