2003 Fuzzypups Pom-Chon Picnic Fund-Raiser

By tradition, the picnic was held the 3rd Saturday in June at the Julia Dekoevend Park in Littleton, Colorado.  This year, the Denver Metro Pomeranian Club co-sponsored the picnic, and was a great help in pulling it all together.

Chris and Barb Gemma and their two Bichons came early to help in the set-up.   Virginia Wallace, President of the Pom Club took first shift at the registration table with her Pomeranian, Sassy.    PetsMart graciously donated enough bandana's so each 4-legged guest got one of his very own.  And don't they look smart?

Events included a  dress-up

relay race

as well as a relay race.    with some wonderful donated gifts awarded to the winners (2 and 4 legged)

Many guests arrived in style...Others just Arrived.    But whoever they arrived, all were set to have a glorious day of play.    Both young and old were welcome.  And Poms and Bichons arrived in droves.  with our oldest 4-legged guest being "Cricket" a Bichon Frise owned by Bob Booth, at a ripe age of 17.

Although fun is featured at the annual picnics, the main purpose is to raise much needed funds for the rescue work provided by the Bichon Frise Rescue Ranch, inc.  Therefore, Rick, our wonderful M.C. spent time interviewing different owners who have adopted rescue pets.

The costume contest is always fun, and our vet (far right) even entered and won with her Pom's entry of a "biker" dog.  Annette was on hand to microchip pets as well.  We also had time this year, and entered our senior, Belle, as Winnie the Pooh... Other entries included the Lone Ranger and Tonto, a "flower child" with a matching dad outfit, and a cowboy...

We also had a "trickiest dog contest" which was fun, with a Bichon who picked up his own toys, a pair of dancing Poms, and various other dog tricks.

Ending the day was a raffle, where all guests received a minimum of one winning ticket, and many received more.  Actually, I don't think there were any tickets that didn't get a raffle prize, as we came home with prizes to use for next year.  The raffle was supported by wonderful donations from Coors, and a local advt. company who donated various logo t-shirts which were a huge hit.  Many dog items were donated as well, including some photo albums made by a rescue mom's craft club and sent here from New Mexico!  They were awesome!

All in all, the 86 pets and their human guests had a great time, and ultimately, the Rescue Ranch was the big winner.

Mark your calendar for year 2004 --- 3rd Saturday, same time, same place, and/or watch the Newsletter for further information .  The Denver Metro Pom Club promises to be involved again, so it will be great time for all.   And we'll be there with our new black Pom we rescued, and just had to keep...Now we are really part of the Pom-Chon lover group as we have both!
